What is Environmental Medicine?
It has always been known that what we eat is as important as the environment in which we live. But it has not been until recent years that these factors have become more relevant, and have become part of the understanding of a healthy and sustainable habitat.
Our health is determined by our human biology -genetic predisposition, sex, age, etc.-, lifestyles -nutrition, nutrition, diet, health, etc.-, and the environment in which we live. our lifestyles – nutrition, physical activity, sleep quality, toxic habits, among the most important – and environmental conditions such as the quality of air, water, food, electromagnetic radiation, noise, urban environment, housing and workplace…. organic solvents, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, toxic metals, endocrine disruptors, xenoestrogens (derived from plastics such as polychlorinated biphenyls), can affect health in many ways, especially in the most vulnerable population groups, such as children, the chronically ill or immunocompromised, or the elderly.
Environmental medicine analyzes how all these factors influence health and how disease can be prevented by controlling these aspects of contamination.
